How can LARES help?
By providing prospective students with a full orientation to the University of Illinois at Chicago and its many graduate and undergraduate programs.
By providing information on various grants, loans, and scholarships including special academic scholarships at UIC for qualified minority students. By carefully guiding students through the admissions process. By providing educators in high schools and community colleges with current information on UIC resources available for their use. By networking new students to the many professional and other Latinx student organizations that act as valuable information resources as well as sources of peer support.
By coordinating activities with the Latin American and Latino Studies Program and the Rafael Cintron Ortiz Latino Cultural Center that foster student retention by providing an educational and social environment to preserve and promote the Latino cultural heritage. By assisting students with tutorial and other academic services. By linking students to other support networks at UIC, to opportunities at the graduate and professional schools and/or directly to job opportunities in the business and public sector. By providing students access to the Cesar Chavez Study Center equipped with computers.
