To help you transition smoothly and start your UIC experience strong and confident, we invite you to attend a LARES Transfer and Thrive session(s). The LARES Transfer and Thrive sessions are designed just for transfer students like you—offering guidance, resources, and a sense of community as you transition to life at UIC.

Join our LARES Transfer and Thrive series – a set of engaging, 60-minute sessions designed to help you navigate your transition and thrive from day one!
You will:
- Discover what it means to be a successful LARES student
- Explore essential campus resources for academic and personal success
- Connect with fellow transfer students
- Meet LARES staff and learn how we support your success
- Get insider tips and resources to jumpstart your academic journey
- Learn how to get involved on campus from day one
- Feel fully prepared to begin your UIC journey with confidence
You’ll also have a chance to meet one-on-one with a LARES Academic Advisor to get personalized support on academics, financial aid, and more.

Your Guide to a Confident Start at UIC
Whether you’re new to UIC or looking to strengthen your college transition, our LARES Transfer and Thrive series is designed with you in mind. Join one session or attend all three—each session is impactful on its own, and together they form a well-rounded introduction to your new academic home.

- Transfer and Thrive: Navigation Essentials – Get the inside scoop on navigating your student portal, preparing for academic advising, course registration, and making the most of orientation. We’ll guide you through the digital tools you’ll use daily as a student!

Location: Zoom (virtual) - Transfer and Thrive: Money Matters – Master your college financial toolkit! We’ll decode your financial aid award letter, identify resources you might not know about, and share strategies for financial success. Bring your questions and leave with clarity.

Time: 3:00PM – 4:00PM
Location: In-Person - Transfer and Thrive: Community Connections – Discover how to plug into campus life! We’ll explore student organizations, leadership opportunities, and support networks. Learn how campus involvement can enhance your resume while finding activities that match your interests and goals.

Empower Yourself & Make a Difference through the LARES Summer Institute!
Are you ready to lead? The LARES Summer Institute is a free, one-week program designed for incoming UIC students who want to grow as leaders and make a positive impact on the Latinx community.
Program Details-
Dates: August 11–15, 2025
Time: 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Location: UIC campus
Cost: Free (Lunch included!)
Through workshops, discussions, and community building, you’ll develop key leadership skills and connect with peers who share your passion for making a difference.
