To help you transition smoothly and make the most of your time at UIC, consider attending a LARES Transfer and Thrive session, a virtual welcome session just for you. This event will connect you with other transfer students and provide valuable information to jumpstart your academic journey at UIC.
LARES Transfer and Thrive: Get Ready to Succeed
These workshops are designed to give you, our incoming transfer students, a head start on a successful transition to UIC. We’ll cover everything you need to know to hit the ground running:
- Mastering MyUIC: Learn your way around the student portal (my.uic.edu) to navigate everything from class registration to financial aid.
- Understanding Your Credits: We’ll break down your degree audit and help you understand how read what transfer credits apply to your UIC program.
- Registration Made Easy: Feeling lost about course registration? We’ll guide you through the process step-by-step.
- Academic Advising 101: Get prepared for your college advising session to maximize your academic success.
- Financial Aid Made Clear: We’ll clarify your financial aid package and available payment options.
- Orientation & First Semester Tips: Learn how to get the most out of your orientation experience and make your first semester a breeze.
Plus, you’ll have the opportunity to connect with a LARES advisor one-on-one for personalized guidance on academics and financial aid before the semester even starts.

Attend LARES Transfer and Thrive (Virtual)!
This session is designed to help get you ready for your UIC Orientation. LARES advisors will help jumpstart your success at UIC by helping you transition, learn about LARES services, and guide you through the next steps of your academic journey. This session does not replace orientation; students must register for orientation.
When: Sessions are scheduled twice a month starting in May through July. Refer to the registration form for specific dates.

Meet with Your LARES Academic Advisor!
When: You can meet with a LARES Academic Advisor at any time during this process with any questions you may have.
Where: To view your assigned advisor, visit the LARES Academic Advising webpage and schedule an appointment.

Apply to the LARES Transfer Scholar Award!
The LARES Transfer Scholar Award is designed to assist incoming transfer students reach their goal of obtaining a baccalaureate degree. Candidates are considered based on merit and leadership. Award funding is specifically earmarked for tuition, fees, and other educational related expenses.
When: Deadline to apply is June 2024.
