Application window for the Spring 2025 semester will open October 7, 2024 to November 24, 2024.

The LARES Tuition Award aims to assist LARES students reach their goal of obtaining a baccalaureate degree. Candidates are considered based on merit, leadership, and commitment to the Latino Community.

Priority will be given to students who do not receive MAP grant money or funding from external agencies. Depending on the availability of funding, recipients may receive full or partial tuition waivers. This award does not cover university fees or expenses associated with study abroad opportunities.

Students are eligible to receive this tuition award up to three times total throughout their undergraduate studies. Additionally, applicants who receive the LARES tuition award will be required to participate in one LARES signature event during the term awarded. Students who fail to meet this requirement will not be eligible for the next application cycle.

Eligibility:

  • Current UIC undergraduate student.
  • Students must have earned a minimum of 12 credit hours at UIC at the time of award application.
  • Student must be in good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (cumulative).
  • Student must maintain a full-time course load (12+ credit hours) during the Spring 2025 semester.
  • Students must be eligible for in-state tuition.
  • Holders of F-1 student visas are non-eligible.

To apply, please follow the instructions below:

  • Complete the online LARES Tuition Award Web Application.
  • Submit resume in PDF format.
  • Respond to the following questions:
    • Tell us about yourself. What is your story? What are your academic and professional goals? (200-300 words)
    • How do your goals contribute to the advancement of the Latino community? (150-200 words)
    • Describe an experience where you made a significant contribution and/or demonstrated leadership in the Latino and/or the UIC community. (150-200 words)
    • What is your most significant academic achievement during your time at UIC?  (200-250 words)
    • Aside from scholarship opportunities, how can or how has LARES support you in achieving your goals? (100 words)
  • One Letter of Recommendation from a UIC advisor, instructor, or administrator on official letterhead. Letters should be e-mailed in PDF format directly to the Daisy Medina (dmedin20@uic.edu) with “LARES Tuition Award” in the subject line.

 

The application, resume, and letter of recommendation must be submitted by Sunday, November 17th, 2024 at 11:59PM CT.
