AN OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE
The Latin American Recruitment and Educational Services (LARES) program raises funds to endow awards for UIC Latino college students. Your contributions help to financially support students and expand the leadership opportunities available to them.
Current awards include:
Near West Side/Hull-House Latino Community Award – Recognizes the best essay, research project, performance or artistic submission on a topic related to the community history or current social realities of Latinos in Illinois.
Latino Alumni Award – Selects students based on a combination of financial need, academic achievement, and community service.
Cesar Chavez/Frida Kahlo Award – This leadership award considers financial need and academic achievement.
Otto Pikaza Award – Selects students with strong academic records in the sciences, arts or humanities who value cooperation and coalition building.
LARES General Fund – A discretionary fund that supports special projects ranging from guest speakers, conference expenses, and special opportunities including costs related to educationally related travel abroad programs. This fund also helps support recruitment and retention initiatives. (Donations that do not identify a specific award will be placed in the LARES General Fund.)
Contributions of $25 or higher are tax deductible as allowed by law. Those donating $500.00 or more will join the LARES 100 and have a commemorative nameplate on an honorary plaque located at LARES.
