“Sí Se Puede’ Corazón de León Scholarship
Application window for Spring 2026 is currently open and will close February 27, 2026; 11:59pm.
The “Si Se Puede” Corazón de León Scholarship was established to support undergraduate students in achieving both their educational and career goals at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC). Candidates are determined based on their merit, leadership, and LARES involvement.
Eligibility:
- Must be a first-generation UIC college undergraduate student.
- Must be enrolled in the LARES program. Please visit the following link to sign up for the program: lares.uic.edu/about/get-connected/
- Must be enrolled full-time at UIC.
- Must have a minimum GPA 3.00/4.00.
- Preference to students pursuing the following endorsements:
- Demonstrate Financial Need
- Demonstrate service in their community
- Involve in student organizations, leadership positions or volunteer experience.
To be considered for this award, students will need to:
- Complete the online LARES Web Application.
- Submit your resume in PDF format.
- One Letter of Recommendation from a UIC advisor, instructor, or administrator on official letterhead. Letters should be e-mailed in PDF format directly to Luis Duarte (luisd@uic.edu) with “’Sí Se Puede’ Corazón de León Scholarship” in the subject line.
Recipients of the ‘Si Se Puede’ Corazón de León Scholarship will be expected to:
- Provide a headshot and short bio (100-200 words) to share on UIC Newsletter, LARES Listserv, and Website and Award Recipient Event.
- Attend at least one academic advising session with their LARES advisor during the semester the award is distributed.
- Maintain a full-time course-load (at least 12 credits) at UIC during the semester the award is distributed.
- Attend a LARES-sponsored event on campus.
