The HACE Olga Camargo Scholarship was established to assist LARES students in reaching their goal of obtaining a baccalaureate degree. Candidates are considered based on merit, leadership, and commitment to the their community.

Students who do not receive MAP grant money or funding from external agencies will be given priority. Depending on the funding availability, recipients may receive up to $2,500 for the term awarded.

Eligibility:   

  • First-generation UIC college undergraduate student.
  • Must be enrolled in the LARES program. Please visit the following link to sign up for the program: lares.uic.edu/about/get-connected/
  • Have at least a 3.00 GPA.
  • Display financial need.
  • Full-time enrollment at the time of award application and distribution (12+ credit hours).
  • Eligible for in-state tuition. (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival / DACA students are eligible to apply.)
  • Holders of F-1 student visas are ineligible.

To be considered for this award, students will need to:

  • Complete the online LARES Web Application.
  • Submit your resume in PDF format.
  • Respond to the following questions:
    • What are your academic and professional goals? (200-300 words)
    • Describe your involvement with LARES. How has the program helped you towards achieving your personal and professional goals? (150-250 words)
    • Share an experience where you demonstrated leadership in the Latino and/or the UIC community. (150-250 words)
    • Explain how the Olga Camargo Scholarship will assist you in your educational and career goals? (100-200 words)
  • One Letter of Recommendation from a UIC advisor, instructor, or administrator on official letterhead. Letters should be e-mailed in PDF format directly to Luis Duarte (luisd@uic.edu) with “HACE Olga Camargo Scholarship” in the subject line.
